Competition

Competition: July 11 – 14, 2024

The competition begins with “pound up” on Thursday, July 11 when the sculptors build and fill their forms.  Once their forms are filled and the sculptor feels they are solidly packed, they may remove their forms and begin to carve.

Gates open to the public to watch the sculptors carving starting Friday, July 12, at 2:00pm.

Judging will take place on Sunday, July 14, from 3:00-4:30pm and the winners will be announced on-site at approximately 5:00pm.

The gated exhibition will remain open to the public from 9:30am to 8:30pm daily July 15 – Sunday, August 18. During the exhibition visitors are invited to vote for their favourite sculpture deciding who takes the “People’s Choice Award”.

Entry to the exhibition is by a suggested donation of $5.00 per person.

Proceeds from your donation support several local non-profit organizations with approximately $75,000 per year being donated back to these volunteer community groups.

Since 1999 the Parksville Beach Festival Society has given back over $1,000,000 thanks to your generous donations.

Please note that the venue is a sand pit.  We do our very best to pack the sand down to make a harder surface for those with mobility issues.

While viewing the sculptures we have available for use, a manual push wheelchair  or motorized scooter.  Note: You must have experience using a scooter in order to use the one on site.

For those with disabilities quieter times for sculpture viewing are typically 9:30-11:00am and 6:00-8:30pm daily.  Weekends do tend to be busier.

Pet Policy: To avoid damage due to the sensitive material used to create the sculptures, no animals are allowed inside the exhibition, regardless if being carried. Service animals specifically trained to aid a person with a disability are welcome.

Be sure to bring your camera to this amazing event because once the exhibition is over the sculptures are gone forever.

And don’t forget to bring your buckets and spades because you and your family are sure to be inspired to create a little sandcastle magic of your own after viewing the sand sculptures.  You can learn the tricks of the trade at the Parksville Canadian Tire Sculpting Zone by attending the free sand sculpting demonstrations   and lessons on Saturday July 13 and Sunday July 14,10:00am – 5:00pm.
